Crescent History
1953

Crescent officers this year was Commodore Henry Cawthra, Vice Commodore Arthur Rautenberg and Rear Commodore Wilber Smale.

A Box Social and square dances were held in the off-season to keep the sailors occupied. During the Box Social a "white elephant" exhibit was instituted. It was never again repeated, logically, because anything a sailor can’t use himself is no earthy use to anyone else.

Cossaboom Causeway and methods of creating and perpetuating it were also the subject of continuing discussion and some little work during the winter season. Mooring fees were increased 50% to help balance the budget. This was done only after checking other facilities and finding ours ridiculously low.

In March the inner seawall in the small harbor was poured, along with a new dingy ramp. The Thistle District Elimination’s were held at Crescent on July 25 and 26. The Crescent Regatta this year was held on August 29, and of course the Club made an immediate, formal request that the Lightning International be held here in 1954.

Juniors Jim Millies, Walter Thill, Jack Wubbe and A. Jocz won the Wakefield series beating five other clubs.
