Crescent History
1948

The Club Flag Officers for this year were Commodore Robert Harris, Vice Commodore Fred Schelter, and Rear Commodore Eugene West.

The dull winter was marked by Valentine parties, Star and Lightning Banquets, and topped by the Commodore’s Ball on April 10th. In February, the Club obtained a new Bos’n, Frank Biggers.

During July and August, the Club had picnic suppers and class races every Wednesday. The second DRYA Annual Race Week took place July 1 through July 5. Crescent was becoming famous for its ideal Regatta days and the 16th Regatta was no exception. Held on August 21, a whopping 150 yachts entered and we had beautiful weather again.

It was during August that the Club and sailors throughout Detroit area marked the passing of Morrill Dunn, one of the greats in Sail Yacht Racing.

The fall season was highlighted by our usual Halloween costume event for which Sylvin Phillips and Mildred and Earl Peters won prizes. We closed the year and welcomed in the new with our traditional New Years Eve Party.
