Crescent History
1934
| Early in 1934 the roster count showed Membership had grown to 55 members. Around March 1st, the Club was giving notice that new tenants would take immediate possession of the Book Property. After many negotiations, the time was extended to allow for the launching of boats. In May, permission was obtained from the Department of Parks & Boulevards to use Memorial Basin as a temporary mooring place for the entire fleet. The search for a permanent Club site continued. Efforts were concentrated in obtaining a lease from Mr. Henry B Joy for the use of his property just south of the Seven Mile Dock. Mr. Joy’s approval was obtained principally through the efforts of Ted Barbier. The necessary lawful permission to occupy the property for Club purposes was granted by the Board of Trustees of Grosse Point Farms. The fleet of boats were moved from Memorial Basin to the new Harbor on July 3rd. Also in July, Chalmers Burn the Club's first Commodore passed away unexpectedly. |
